Originally written as a way to expand the world of some of the 1980’s Dungeons & Dragons campaigns (Dragons of Despair, and Dragons of Flame) and give the popular game more depth, Dragons of Autumn Twilight by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman is the first installment of the Dragonlance Chronicles. Dragons of Autumn Twilight lays the foundation for the rest of the Chronicles Trilogy, and the following Dragonlance Legends trilogy. Becoming widely popular among Dungeons and Dragons fans, and fantasy fans in general, the Dragonlance series has become a classic that has grown to include over 190 novels and short stories.

Set in the fantasy world of Krynn, we follow as a group of old friends and adventurers gather again after a long absence of pursuing their own independent quests. They return to their home village just as a new evil makes itself present, and the companions must once again join together to find a way to save their home. Along with their journey, they are introduced to some new companions, and discover a long foreseen prophecy has started to come true! Realizing the danger they face is greater than they expected, the companions, old and new, must find a way to work together, and work through their misgivings about one another to save the fate of all of Krynn… from dragons.

A classic style fantasy novel, Dragons of Autumn Twilight is full of beautiful and descriptive imagery. The words of Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman paint some of the most vivid and brightly colored scenery one can find in a fantasy novel. Full of action, magic, extensive world crafting, and of course… dragons, the first installment of the Dragonlance Chronicle lends itself to be one of the most noteworthy tales in modern fantasy. From beginning to end, it is an easy, engaging, and fun read with an ending that leaves the door open welcoming for more to come!
